This just in....Saturday Blog...a once in a lifetime event....

I am at work at the moment enjoying some comedy central online and watching a guy install the new office ice machine. I can't tell you enough that it doesn't get any better than this. Soon I will be off to join my chemistry cohorts for one last Saturday of preliminary organic chemistry studying. I'm a nerd you say? Yes...yes I am...a nerd who wants to get into medical school and I'll be damned if I don't.

Last night's 4 and 1/2 hour volunteer session went very well. I have to say that I am always amazed at how crazy it can get in there especially when you are the only volunteer on duty and every tom, dick and harry needs you to do something that they don't necessarily want to do themselves. But shock of all shocks the nursing staff was a bit nicer than usual and I actually received a couple of "thanks for doing that." There are still a few things that I find a bit strange about the whole operation, but for the most part everything ran pretty smoothly. I am constantly reminded of how old I am (and I am not even close to being a doctor) by all of the very young looking first year residents, interns, and med students. I am also a bit jealous as they are where I want to be. I must also point out that it took a couple of months for some of the administrative desk staff to warm up to the fact that I was there to stay and I was witness to a great deal of disdain that one woman had for an intern who was asking her a number of questions that should have been directed to a nurse. Thankfully, a nurse cheerfully chimed in with the answers as the administrator was about to burst out with something nasty. Problem averted and note to self: when you are an intern do not bother the administrative desk staff for anything just ask a nurse. If it were me I would've glanced at my patient print outs and simply asked the nurse in charge of the patient if she know what was going on and make an attempt to follow up if I noticed that the patient was still there an hour later. This way, not only do you learn the names of the nursing staff, but you can also not get into too much trouble. It of course is all fine and good to write about doing this and it is another thing to follow through. I could just be fooling myself. 6 years from now when I am an intern, perhaps I will look back at this comment and say "Ha...I was fooling myself for ever thinking that I would have the time to do a simple task such as that." We shall see.

Alrighty than.....Have a good weekend all.

If anyone is looking for a good laugh this morning might I suggest that you take a look at the New York Times review of the film "The Cave". Everytime I see a preview for this movie I am immediately reminded of a commercial where two kids are hiking in a cave or something and they nod at each other knowingly, pull out a couple packs of "Capri Sun", sip from them, then turn into liquid metal flying blobs and fly out of the cave and out into this waterfall inlet area where a bunch of other kids are playing. Now if the characters from the movie had some "Capri Sun" then they could have just turned into liquid metal blobs and flown out of the cave to safety. If this were the case than maybe the movie going public wouldn't have to slap down their hard earned dough to see this film. The filmakers could have saved a lot of time if it were actually just a freaky, escape from giant bats "Capri Sun" commercial.

My favorite part of the review below from the New York Times review by Laura Kern:
"What is left of the plot amounts to guessing who will be killed off next out of the token Asian and African-American guys, the girl in the skimpy outfit, the sexy female scientist with an English accent and the testosterone-pumped combative brothers. Not that it matters much - the characters are so colorless and underdeveloped that their deaths certainly won't be mourned."

But what if it were a "Capri Sun" commercial? Perhaps it would be a bit more exciting and we wouldn't have to worry about the characters because the whole thing would be over in 30 seconds. (I hope "Capri Sun" enjoys the free advertising that they are getting from this.)

And to continue harping on Hollywood. I love it when previews say "here is what critcs are saying about" or that "critics agree", that Blah Blah movie is amazing, a thrill-ride, spine tingling, a joy, a terrific romantic comedy...etc...and all of these things come from one or two critics and that's it....yes I know that two denotes a plural form of critics...and saying "here is what critics are saying about..." or "critics agree" while technically accurate in terms of two critics and the english language...I believe that in actuality there is a little bit of "stretching the truth" going on here.

I am a bit late for this one but I do have to mention the teen choice awards which was broadcast on television what like two weeks ago or something. When I first saw the ads for this (you know the one where they list all of the "stars" that will be speaking, presenting, or performing). I couldn't believe that Andy Dick and Paris Hilton were two of the people who were going to be appearing. Were they up for awards? Were they going to be performing? I don't know about you, but when I think of teenagers and the "Teen Choice Awards" the first things that come to my mind are an overrated coke-head and a whore. What were the producers of this thing thinking? That these two people are role models for teenagers? You would have to be smoking crack to think that this was a good idea...wait...was Andy Dick one of the producers?

Well that's all folks....Have a lovely weekend....

and for those of you who have continued to read on: My mantra for the coming year. Yeah it is going to be a fun one for good ole milhouse. I just realized that I will be spending more time than I could have ever wanted working on Organic Chemistry. So I have a 4 hour lab and 1 hour lab recitation, and two days of three hour lectures with an additional lecture workshop that is scheduled for Tuesday nights from 7-9:40. All told I am looking at nearly 14 hours of class time each week all devoted to organic chemistry (this of course is not including the many hours on Saturdays when my chem buddies and I study on our own.) Did I also mention that I am taking two other classes this semster as well....physics and calculus 2. I am really going to go out of my mind here. So don't expect too many blogs from me. Except perhaps endless rows of the above mantra, which will give an indication to my 3 or 4 readers of where I am in the world. And so this coming Monday I begin my quick descent into the 7th level of hell.

In other news I have this really decent idea for a script. Wow, another blogger who wants to be a writer...that's something new! HA! No I don't actually want to be a writer but this idea is really good and I would explore it if I had the time of day, which I don't so I guess it doesn't really matter if I put it down here or not. However if the idea is stolen I have instant unofficial proof that it was my idea simply by having it here on my blog. OK so the story revolves around a 20-something who decides to log on to one of those web-cam sites because a friend of his is making her debut on a particular website (you know the ones I am talking about...we all get that spam) and she wants him to come and check it out (they have a fairly open relationship with each other, he is gay and you find out later that she is gay too...one of those weird twists that you don't see enough in Hollywood...HA!). Anyway, he logs onto the site and sees her on there, she is webcasting from her dorm room in a building not far from where he is...and after not getting any hits for the few hours that she is "working" she decides that she has "worked" enough for the evening, but she forgets to sign off, so the camera is still going, and our "hero" is still watching....he is about to call her when he sees her answer the door and he watches her get shot or stabbed or something (a detail to be worked out later) and the mystery begins....I was thinking that the main character could be a med student or something dorky like that. The woman's girlfriend becomes involved somehow (detail to be worked out later, but the girlfriend did not know that she was going to be "working" on the web). I think that there are films that were made with less than this to work with.

Ok so maybe not the best idea in the world but I think it would make a good law and order or something. Perhaps I should give up my dream of med school and pursue a job as a professional pitch person. yeah....right. Besides if this movie was actually made they would probably cast ashlee simpson or something in a role...oh didn't you know that she is an "actress" now! Jesus Christ people do I have to go on another god damned rant about what the hell is wrong with Hollywood. ARGHGHGHGHGH!

You can't always get what you want.

So my recent foray into academia has met with it's first failure. I didn't get the interview. I won't be in this linkage program that is a pathway to early acceptance to medical school. I cannot say with any sort of truth that I am not disappointed. My confidence has been shaken somewhat. It was not meant to be. I must ask myself what it was about my application/packet that made me undesirable even for an interview. And naturally additional questions arise like "Am I good enough to go to med school at all?" and the like. All told I must look at this experience and learn from it. Not sure what I will be able to learn though, since I will never find out what it was that I could have done differently. Dem's da breaks. Does this mean there is no hope? Does this mean I should quit this dream? HELL NO! I've already invested too much time, energy and a ridiculous amount of effort to stop now and I haven't even gotten to the good stuff yet (MCAT, ORGO and the whole applying to med school process, fun fun fun!) Do I think that I will be a superb doctor? Yes! Do I think I am smart enough to be a doctor? Yes! So linkage program be damned. I am still going to med school and I will still be accepted to where I want to go.

Bottomline: As all good red sox fans know, ya gotta keep the faith. And so I shall.

Those Lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer are coming quickly to an end

Somehow the weather has been just a little bit nicer here in the city. The humidity has even dropped a bit which is a welcome change from the immense amount of sweat that creeps it's way through my shirts. And since I've been wearing a backpack for most of the summer (containing my precious spanish materials), when I've arrived at a destination and take it off I am left with two racing stripes of sweat on either side of my upper torso. It really is quite attractive. Thank god for speed stick or I would stink too.

Acabé español y ahora no necesito tomar nada más. ¡Hay, qué bueno para mi! Recibé una "A" para la primera parte y una "A+" para la segunda. Tengo que "Toot my own horn" porque estoy muy arogante.

So now I have the next week off from school. What will I be doing you ask? Why, studying off course. I picked up a pre-organic chemistry book a few weeks ago and it is high time are started getting down to business. I have a tough semester ahead and do not want to slip. Still no word from this linkage program and I am wondering if I should just write it off at this point. I would think that someone would let me know one way or another. The world's good friend "Murphy" has a knack for making things happen when you are about ready to move on. Alas, we shall see.

On to hollywood. So my wife and I watched "Dirty Pretty Things" last night, a film by Stephen Frears and put out by Mirmax & BBC Films (gotta give credit where credit is do). I have to say that I did enjoy the film. It was not fantastic, but it was certainly more original than the shlock that comes from out west. Can I categorize this as a foreign film? I think I can and the reason why is the characters looked like real people and with just about every foreign film that I have seen the characters look real and therefore are more believable. Why doesn't this happen more often in Hollywood? Yes, yes the business is about make-believe, but given the fact that a great many of these hollywood blockbusters end up failing at the box office isn't that some kind of sign to film producers out there that we as consumers need something that is not so glossy. Hey, I still enjoy watching piece of crap blockbuster occasionally, but I am now more likely to spend $2-3 to rent it rather than experience it in the theatre. It has got to be something pretty dang special for me to go spend $11.50 and I can tell you it won't have Mr. Cruise, Ms. Jolie, or Ashton Kutcher. And you know what else, we need a helluva lot more minority actors in major roles. Bottomline? Expand the damn talent pool in every direction and produce more original films with smaller budgets. The business is stagnant, just like Broadway. Yeah, I know I am frickin dreaming because I belong to a small contingent of film watchers and the masses need their cotton candy pieces of crap so they can forget about their lives for a couple of hours and see s**t get blown up. Oh well.

I'll be off to the dentist later today to begin stage two of my dental implant procedure. Today they will be "shaping the gum". I had a titanium screw drilled into my jaw back in March and it has healed well according to my oral surgeon. I am hoping that today's procedure is quick and painless. Actually, the screw procedure was not as bad as I thought it was going to be. They shot me full of novocaine and I really didn't feel a thing. BRUSH AND FLOSS YOUR DAMN TEETH PEOPLE.

So a man from Waco has been arrested for driving his truck (and dragging chains) over a series of crosses that have been laid out with the names of the fallen in protest of the current military quagmire (i think it is very safe to use this word now). This man had something to say about Cindy Sheehan's desperate attempt to get Captain koo-koo banana pants (thank you Homer) to withdrawl troops from Iraq. So now while this man may not agree with her protest, why would running over a bunch of crosses with the names of the dead soilders on them be the best course of action? Frankly, If I were a solider in the military I would be super pissed, whether I supported the war or not. Not only is she using this as an act of peace, but she is also honoring the dead and making their names known just as so many other cemetaries do across the world. You can't tell me that this is not a gross insult to these men and women who died needlessly? I am guessing that this guy supports the war, but is he going to be pissed off at having to fill up his gas tank sooner rather than later because his truck used up so much gas to commit this egregious act? No, probably not because he really didn't think this through. He got up one day and thought to himself "love it or leave it" and than got in his truck and did this. What the hell is wrong with people? What kind of statement was this guy trying to make. He is probably one of those people that thinks that Saddam was personally responsible for 9/11 even though he also probably thought that people from New York deserved what we got because we have so many gay people here or something. Or maybe God told him to do it, because after all God is American freedom right? Was he saying he wanted more of our children to die over there? Was this an "I support the War" statement? And if so, what kind of thoughts must one have in order to support the war...cheaper gas prices for Americans? NO....Saddam was a threat to us? NO...the people of Iraq wanted us to come in there and "institute" (read: force) our kind of government on them? NO...frankly I cannot think of a single reason why anyone could possibly be in support of this war. And most of the world leaders today, I think, would probably agree with me. We, as americans, haven't gained anything from this war and the Iraqi people certainly haven't gained anything and it certainly appears as though they want us the hell out of there. I want to see as many soilders as possible come back home safely and I firmly believe we need to cut our loses and get the hell out of there. Don't we get enough oil from all the other OPECs? (maybe not, since I keep forgetting the fact that we are home to millions of SUV owners who would rather drive their Hummer two blocks for their carton of milk and pack of cigarettes than perform anything resembling physical activity...stupid milhouse). The president says we will "stay the course", because we screwed up in the first place and now we have to stay there and make sure that they set up an american friendly government (read: puppet regime) so that we can ensure a steady flow of overpriced oil (because American corporate share holders and their CEOs need to see a profit.) Joe Taxpayer will continue to pay too much for his ozone depleting fossil fuels with a smile on his face because "hell, them Iraqis are free now just like me". The politicians will soon try and convince us all that we should be honored to pay higher prices for our ozone depleting, global warnming causing fossil fuels because that's what all of our troops died for. It's a sick sick world......

Anyway, thank you Cindy, in my opinion you are a true american.

OK...So I had to do a quote of the day after all and i have 4 minutes left in the day

QUOTE OF THE DAY

So here's another question I've been pondering.
What is all this s**t about angels?
Have you heard this?
3 out of 4 people now belive in Angels.
What are you?...F**king stupid?
Has everyone lost their f**king mind in this country?
-George Carlin

yes george...yes we have......

If you don't llike being a nurse in the ER than you should find another job because I don't have time for your bulls**t and I am just a volunteer.

So I am a volunteer in the emergency room of a hospital and I work very hard and try to make patients more comfortable in a very uncomfortable situation and I also help the nurses out by doing odd jobs here and there. Por ejemplo, putting clean sheets on stretchers, distributing food trays etc. I help out the nurses with the crap that they don't want to do...which is fine after all I am a volunteer. It would be f**cking nice if some of these goddamn nurses would just give me a little bit of respect...I mean I am giving my time to this place free of charge because I am a decent human being and I want to go to med school, but it would be nice if some of these nurses would at the very least look me in the eye once in awhile when they are talking to me instead of treating me like some insignificant ant. I am here helping you, you f**king jerkasses so get over yourself. I know that doctors treat you like crap sometimes and I know you have to feel special too by putting someone like me down because I don't know as much as you do (yet)...but did you ever stop to think that the reason why doctor's treat nurses like crap is all some twisted revenge thing where nurses were rude to them when they were volunteers and they never forgot it so that when they ended up becoming doctors they made sure to give back everything that they got when they were just lowly volunteers. I know that this is a chicken and the egg kind of thing, but don't you think that it might be possible for this to be true. I will say that a majority of the staff at this hospital appreciate that I am there and some of them actually know my name, but there are a couple of nurses who couldn't give a crap....and that is all good...maybe they are just bitches...period...maybe it isn't just me...maybe they just suck ass...and the thing that I notice about these particular nurses are that they don't seem to give a rat's ass about the patients (yes some patients are a handful, but what if one of them was actually really ill and died because you weren't paying them the attention that everyone deserves when they go to an ER no matter how sick or not sick they are...yes there are crazy people, and drunk bums who come in to sleep it off but you are in the "care" industry and you should be doing everything you can to help everyone instead of sitting on your f**cking ass like you couldn't be bothered with this s**t. Why are you even a f**king nurse in the first place if you are sitting there and so unhappy. Go and find yourself another fcuking (tired of the **) job...and they snicker and roll their eyes at me behind my back and think that I am just some dumb ass kid and the thing is I am not some dumb ass kid and when you are patronizing me I fcuking know it bitches. I now feel like I should be an ER resident and if I match at this hospital ER I hope that these people are still working there just so that I can have my revenge....but a part of me also wishes that these people leave their jobs ASAP, because you really aren't helping anyone at this point and I am the one that has to pick up the pieces and try and explain to these patients that one of the reasons why they are sitting there hungry and not being seen is because the nurse that is in charge of you dosen't really care about you and that is just wrong. But I do have to give kudos to a majority of the nursing staff at this hospital, it's just too bad that there are a couple of rotten fcuking apples in the barrel. I am a volunteer not just because I want to go to med school, I genuinely care about the well being of individuals...it's part of the reason why I want to be a doctor and I would think a reason why anyone would enter the health care system but what the hell do I know I am just a lowly volunteer....argh...

Just had to vent here sorry all. It's one thing to be an intern or a resident and being crapped on and I expect that in the future and look foward to it with open arms, but this treating volunteers like crap thing has got to f**king go.....

goodnight all...

The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog

Now I know my abcs next time won't you sing with me. Yep, it's another friday afternoon at the office and there is absolutely nothing and I mean nothing going on. The phone has rung...I don't know...maybe..2 or 3 times in the 3 hours that I have been here. I ain't gots nuthin to do but destroy the english language.

Today is the first full day without the wifey (no she hasn't "left" me, but has taken an excursion to the city of sin (albeit she is not much of a sinner except for time where we lived together for 4 years before we got married...chances are she's still got a shot at heaven....me...I'm done for....I'm on the VIP list for that great big ball of fire down below...and no I don't mean the Steven Seagal movie, although that would be a very special private hell for someone out there to have to watch that movie for eternity). Wow, tangent much. So I don't know what to do with myself. I will be done at the hospital tonight at 8pm and will probably head home...pretty sad....the good thing is that I will be able to stay up late....I'll probably pull out a couple of movies from my collection. I will have to pause at 10:30 to catch "coupling" on PBS...one of the finest british sitcoms around that was naturally "Americanized" (thankfully the american version lasted about 5 minutes...we are such dumb-asses sometimes). Speaking of remakes...."infernal affairs" a freekin fantastic film from Hong Kong (Police vs. Triads, each placing a mole in each other's organizations) featuring Tony Leung Chiu Wai adn Andy Lau is being remade by good ole' Marty Scorsese with Leo D-cup (I don't like this guy and think he is an overrated actor but what do I know) and Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson, Alec Baldwin etc....the story is moved to Boston and involves the police vs. irish mob each placing a mole in each other's organizations. Pic is apparently going to be called "The Departed". I am not one for remakes and am a frim believer in leaving well enough alone. "Infernal Affairs" was a slick, icy cool pic with startling and gritty camera work (Michael Mann's "Heat" comes to mind, and I recall that Mr. Mann was interested in doing this remake??) and a brilliant story line. It was so popular that they made two more films. One that takes place before the action of the first film and the third which takes place after the first one. I have yet to view the third. I know that I will ultimately be disappointed in the american version, but that's because we aren't very good at this kind of thing and because I am a glass is half empty kind of person.

Well anyway...hope you all have a great weekend and I am outta here.....

Avast ya swabs...yar be broadside to me merry cannons!

Are there days where you feel like you should have lived in another era (or in spanish "epoca"). Nope, me neither. I am happy to be living in the time that I am in and have no desire to be in another time where you had things like "The Black Plague", besides we have enough of our own problems. Yeah, Yeah...I won't do much ranting here about stuff in the world today.

Toady is all about this girl in my spanish class who really annoyed the hell out of me and many of my classmates the other day. So we were talking about spanish food and our professor was talking about how his family (in a small town in northern Spain) killed their own livestock for the pusposes of food. He did a couple of meager drawings in chalk that were representative of how they slaughered (Creo que la palabra en español es "matanza") and this girl, who is apparently a militant vegetarian, got really pissed off or sick or something and said "this is the reason I am a vegetarian"....it is a frickin chalk drawing for chrissakes. Get over it. Once we were done with the very brief discussion, this girl got up in class and erased the board because she couldn't look at the chalk drawings (my professor admitted that he could draw as well as a four year old) anymore. I am all for vegetarianism, although I am not one, but just as with religion please don't try and push your views on me. Yes I think that there is a lot of inhumane treatment of animals (just ask PETA...oh no..wait don't ask them), but let's face facts, before aliens come down to earth and enslave (read: eat) humans, we are the top of the food chain and with that: if it tastes good we are going to eat it and eat a lot of it. If you don't like it I would be more than happy to listen to your opinions, but I refuse to sit idly by and watch you get upset over a frickin chalk drawing that amounted to a couple of circles and lines.

Alas, one week left and I don't have to worry about spanish for the rest of my life. Then I actually get 10 days off before I start the fall semester. I am still ahving difficulty coming to grips with the fact that school starts in August for one week and then we have labor day weekend off. Wouldn't make more sense to just start the semester tuesday after labor day? Ah...whatever.

The wifey has left me to my own devices for the next few days. Off to Las Vegas she is (am I channeling Yoda here or something). She is visiting her grandmother and will be partying it up. I just hope that she doesn't lose too much money that we don't have. Don't think I have to worry about that though since she doesn't gamble...ever. How can anyone go to Vegas and not gamble. I will never understand this, but then again it is best, given our present financial situation, that no one in our family (me or my wife) gamble. I hope nothing happens to the bird while she is away.

I never know what to do with myself when she leaves me for an extended period of time. I imagine that there will be an exciting trip to Taco Bell and tonight there will be a trip to Batman's house for some familyguy/robotchicken/beerdrinkin/videogameplayin which should be fun. And I will leave the rest up to fate (such a fickle woman fate is)

What Happened to Billy Bob Thornton?

You know the guy is talented. Sling Blade was a tour de force of acting and writing (in my opinion anyway, although I felt that the voice was a little overdone, but that is neither here nor there.) There was promise in his career and then it was gone. Now I am not saying that all of the films that he has appeared in were all bad, but a great many of them have been far less than spectacular. His turn as the President of the United States in "Love, Actually" was great and he was great in the little seen little revered film "U-Turn". I guess what I am saying here is that I hope that he is a bit more selective in his films in the future....stick with the indies!

Spanish continues on with just 6 days left of classes and I can tell you that I am very much looking foward to it being over. It is a great language and I am having fun but I am very frustrated at being able to understand maybe 20% of what is being said to me in class and coming up with the proper response is really really tough. There are just too many rules and conjugations that go into all of this (much like english I imagine) and I never properly learned the English language in terms of tenses and conjugations of that sort so how am I expected to know all of this in Spanish. Well, anyway I am rambling and will now move on.

Glad to see the shuttle got back safely.

Chorus (repeat 2x)
I'll be standing next to you
Whenever you need me to
I'll carry you
Wherever you want to go
I'll unclog your sinks
Whenever your drain is stuffed up
I'll re-upholster your couch
Whenever you're tired of the color
I'll run over your cat
When you aren't looking
All you have to do is ask

Yeah that's all I got in me today.......

The new and improved "Energy" bill

From the NYT article today, Bush signed into law today a 1,724 page bill that will do nothing to decrease the price of gasoline, will do nothing to decrease our dependence on foreign oil, and is basically a huge tax break for all of our poor poor energy companies to begin looking at alternative sources of energy, but what these tax breaks and loans will actually do is continue to fill the coffers of the already wealthy oil companies that do business with foreign oil producing nations. I am well aware that the problems facing thsi nation in terms of dependence and price will not be solved overnight, but jeezum crow giving these guys tax breaks is not the way to go about it. It is as though we are rewarding these companies for destroying the air that we breathe and making sure that the price of oil and gasoline continues to sky rocket. Does everyone here think it prudent to get some independent auditors of these company accounts to make sure that all of this money that these companies will be saving will actually be spent producing alternative sources of energy. It is all fine and good to simply say that these companies are receiving tax breaks and loans, but it is another thing to actually make sure that these companies actually use the money for this purpose and not on a solid gold tub or a charming 8 bedroom mansion in Vermont for some CEO.
From the same article Bush "acknowledged (the bill) will do little to alleviate the high prices of gasoline at the pump for most Americans." You mean to tell me that there are a few Americans out there who will pay less for gas because of this bill, but most Americans will not? What the hell does that mean?

I feel bad that Peter Jennings is dead, I was kind of hoping that Tom Brokaw would go first so that we didn't have to listen to his damn "Greatest Generation Ever" crap. What a way to make the rest of us feel really good about ourselves. Sheesh. No wonder there is so much apathy in this country. Why should we try to accomplish anything when the "Greatest Generation" has already happened. And have things really changed for the better because of the "greatest generation", racial prejudice (still here), Women's Rights (I believe that there is still that glass ceiling hanging over their heads, except for Oprah). Ok I will stop now and say that the people from this generation are a wealth of information and I can understand what makes this generation special. I just have a problem with them being called the greatest generation and me being from Generation X. There are some amazing things that have been done in my time as well. What about me dammit! ME ME ME ME ME. I really don't have a problem with any of this and have no idea why I am even writing all of this down. OK, well I know why because I am an arrogant selfish SOB sometimes and perhaps I wanted to make some sort of correlation between myself and Tom Brokaw who is also an arrogant selfish SOB (or so I've heard...no wait that's mike wallace). Argh...ok I really am going to stop now. Heh heh heh.

Had a very nice weekend with the wifey and met up with many individuals en Parque Central y Parque Prospect. On Saturday we met up with one of my chemistry study pals and his girlfriend which finally proved without a doubt that I actually did spend every saturday studying and not with some floosy (my wife and my pals girlfriend were, I think, both quite relieved at this meeting, apparently it was a concern on both ends...silly girls...I believe my wife thought that it was a little sad that we spent 6-7 hours each saturday actually talking about and working on chemistry...what can I say?...we're dorks and we love it!) The following day was spent out in Brooklyn with another set of friends and I actually got to play some catch again. It had been awhile and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

What? Me Worry?

Well, here I am. Another day. Another day to be worried about everything in my life. Don't get me wrong I have a great life and compared to a lot of other people in this world my worries seem wholly insigificant, but this is my blog and dammit I need to just get this all down for posterity.

1. I am freaking out about school. The amount of pressure that I am feeling to do well is driving me crazy. I do not know if I have the brains or the stamina to get through all of my remaining classes with great grades and by great grades I mean A's. I have a dream about becoming a doctor and there are still a number of preliminary subjects that I will be tackling in order to acheive this dream. THis coming year I will be taking organic chemistry and the corresponding lab (shudder!), physics and the corresponding lab (I feel like I am the only person around who has never taken a physics class and this worries me), and calculus II. Am I a glutton for punishment. Yes...yes I am. I guess the thing that I have to keep focused on is that there are a ton of people that have done this before and gotten through it ok, but since it is in my nature to freak out about anything and everything I doubt that this nugget of thought will ever bring me anything resembling comfort.

2. I have the MCAT to look foward to this coming year and I think that this speaks for itself in terms of the gravity of the situation.

3. This time next summer I will be applying to medical school

4. Money. There are people out there who don't worry about money because they have a lot of it and I hate them. Remember when 1 million dollars was a lot of money? I hate people that think that one million dollars is not a lot of money. I wish I had a million dollars.

I am so stressed about the above, the state of our country, our boys overseas, terrorist attacks, my job, and various other issues such as...well I can't say what else I am worried about because I don't know if I should be worried about it or not (ask my dear sweet Elegy about it), that I have this semi-psychosomatic feeling in my toes. It feels like my toes are being dragged across a chalk board. It was so bad last night that I was not able to fall asleep. I have had this feeling off and on for the last year or so and I have no idea how to get rid of it or even what the hell it is. If anyone has any idea what the hell this is please let me know. I just want the feeling to go away.

Some form of anarchy may be what this country needs.

I don't think that I want to pay federal income taxes anymore. I don't think that I need to give anymore money to a government that is really no longer able to function and is a sham. I truely believe that politicians don't really care about you and me. Sad, but true. They only care about changing the laws to fit their own needs and not neccessarily those of the people that help put them in office. And of course they care about being re-elected (I would too if I had their insurance plan!) by making empty promises about being a voice for the people on the senate or house floor. So I no longer feel that I should be paying any of these people's salaries anymore. We are supposedly the bosses right? We'll it's time to clean the slate and start anew. Obviously it's broke so we need to fix it. Starting first with the electoral college. A vote should be a vote. When we all used to vote for the class president every vote counted right!

You all want to know why Frist changed his mind about stem cell research? I can tell you it isn't because he is testing the waters for a presidential run in 2008, ok maybe a little, but I do have another theory, that he is no doubt now a board member or significant holder of shares in a company that is on the verge of making a huge breakthrough and all they need is the federal support. Now you may say: "Hey mil, isn't Frist a doctor and isn't he finally recognizing the possibilities for the advancement of medicine?" and I would say: "No frickin way" and why would I say that you ask? Because all politicians at that level are all corrupt in one way or another and cannot be trusted to be a voice of the people that put them in office. They are not in it to help us out they are in it for greed and power. I happen to think that stem cell research will be the most important piece in the advancement of medicine in the future, but it will also be a very profitable business to be in and if some senators can be "convinced" by "lobbyists" that it will indeed be profitable, then senators will jump on the money truck bandwagon. I no longer put anything past anyone and I never should have to begin with. Everyone is corrupt all the way up to the top. And yes as there are exceptions to every rule even my own the only person that I believe has her constituents best interests at heart is Barbara Boxer.

Jeez, if this were Ancient Rome I'd be killed for saying all this stuff, but hey look out for the new Patriot Act. (this could indeed be my very last post!) Again I have to say that the government takes enough money from me out of every paycheck I receive and I don't think they deserve anymore. I haven't gotten a refund from the government in over 4 years and am I not supposed to be reaping the benefits of Mr. Bush's comprehensive tax cuts? There was a tax cut right? I just don't get it anymore and I am sick and tired of all the crap that goes down in Washington. I am so angry that I cannot write about this anymore.

No quote today sorry all...I'm too depressed and you should all be too now that John Bolton will be serving as an american representative in the UN. Just downright embarrassing that the president felt the need to appoint this man when most people in the house and senate thought that he was absolutely not the right person for the job (ok so they can sometimes make the right call). What the hell are the other members of the UN going to make of all of this. Bush just etched another notch in the bedpost of american hatred. Bravo!
